Whose blog did you read and leave a comment on? Summarize what you wrote.

I left a comment on Kelsey's blog.  I wrote that I agreed with what she wrote regarding the goal of an argumentative essay and her idea that it is getting information across to the audience.  I added that it is also important that the argument be persuasive to the audience, as well.

How did previewing sections of a book (rather than simply reading them) help you to understand the material? (If you are not practicing previewing the written material it will show in your work.)

Previewing helps rather than reading because sometimes reading drains out the goal, which is to understand the material.

Why and how is argument both a process and a product? What is the goal of argument?

Because there is two parts of an argument essay; to understand the issue and to persuade your audience.  The goal is to incorporate both.

Did you ask anyone else to make recommendations about your revising process? Why or why not?

I actually helped a friend of mine rewrite a paper of hers so we both had to do the same thing.  We both gave tips to each other on what was necessary for change.  It is a great idea to have another point of view so that you see it in a different light, so to speak.

Which genre of argument would you most likely write on your own? Why?

I would rather write inductive arguments.  This is because there is a possibility of more thought and more learning.  Since there is a possibility that the idea could be false then there is always room for improvement or debate.

Which of the suggested Tasks from Writing Arguments did you find most helpful in pre-writing your revision? Why?

 The best tip in Chapter Three in Writing Arguments was to read my draft aloud.  It points out that sometimes we cannot see on paper the issues that our ears can hear.

Lesson 3 Blog-Soldier Funeral Protest

No Protesters Turn Up At Local Marine's Funeral

The news article is about a deceased soldier whose family held a funeral following his death.  A group of members from a local Baptist church were thought to show up to protest the funeral, fighting for their beliefs in peace.  They also wanted to demonstrate their disbelief in war and the armed forces.  To me this is ridiculous because the family and friends are their mourning their lost loved ones.  Also, the soldier died fighting for those American's to be free and to have the right to protest.  I find it shameful that people would do such a thing.  As a Iraqi veteran, I would be very upset if this happened to one of my fellow soldiers or to my family if I had died in Iraq.  It is a blessing that those people did not show up.
